The Wacky Women of Wisbech
Registered Chapter of The Red Hat Society No: 83321
The Wacky Women of Wisbech was started in July 2011 by Queen Margaret and Sandra, Lady Laugh a Lot having already discovered that there was an organisation called The Red Hat Society which was started in the USA in April 1998 by a lady named Sue Ellen Cooper. She was on her way to a coffee morning with a few friends when she passed a charity shop and saw a red fedora in the window. She bought it, wore it and went on to meet her friends. She also remembered the poem 'Warning' by Jenny Joseph©. They thought she looked so good that they wore a red hat the next time they met. This caught on and the Red Hat Society was born.
There are hundreds of chapters and thousands of members all over the world including Australia, Canada and Europe to name a few.
We are a fun-loving friendly bunch of ladies who enjoy various outings, lunches, afternoon teas, shopping and all manner of other events where we proudly wear our red hats or fascinators. There are no rules in the Red Hat Society. The only stipulation is red on the head and purple on the shoulders. We are lucky to have a young lady who is under 50 and she wears a pink hat and lilac on her shoulders. When she reaches the grand old age of 50 we shall initiate her into the red hats.
We meet on the first Thursday of the month at various venues. This isn't set in stone though as with everything, life has a way of leading us down a different path where we discover something fabulous and new. If you would like to come along, just fill in the form and Queen Margaret will contact you.
So if you don't want to grow old gracefully and have a healthy dose of frivolity along the way, why not consider joining us. You will make some brilliant friends and you will be part of the largest Sisterhood in the world.
UNFORTUNATELY THE CHAPTER ISN’T ACCEPTING NEW MEMBERS AT PRESENT. ANOTHER CHAPTER IN WISBECH IS THE ‘PURPLE PASHMINAS’ WHERE YOU WILL BE WARMLY WELCOMED BY QUEEN NATTY.
Queen Margaret xx
